Aegon IV dies. On his deathbed, he legitimises Daemon Blackfyre, Aegor ‘Bittersteel’ Rivers, Brynden ‘Bloodraven’ Rivers and Shiera Seastar, known as “The Great Bastards.”
Daeron II Targaryen is Crowned King of Westeros.
Daeron II is plagued by claims against his legitimacy, as it is widely believed he is not the son of Aegon IV.
The Blackfyre Rebellion Erupts.
When the Blackfyres raised their standard of rebellion, houses throughout Westeros chose sides. While the heaviest and most famous battles occurred in the Riverlands, the spirit of the rebellion reached the Mountains of the Moon. Blackfyre sympathy lay mainly in the northern regions, in the Argent River Valley and along the Bay of Shards.
In the Argent River Valley, House Baldwyn are the leaders of the Rebellion, having fostered one of Daemon Blackfyres’s sons, Athan, for a short time. Minor skirmishing occurs, but only two major battles are fought. The Slaughter at the Reeds, where the rebels surprise and crush a loyalist force, and the Battle of Simeon’s Ford, were rebel forces are ultimately defeated by Lord Pallen Darrow.
In the Grey Watches region rebel forces are more numerous but divided. Fighting is more protracted as the various forces attempt to concentrate. In a serious of battles the rebel forces are eventually brought to heel. Athan Blackfyre boards a ship to the Eastern Continent before the fighting erupts.

Battle of Redgrass Field. Rebel forces under Daemon Blackfyre are defeated in battle by Prince Baelor of Dorne, Crown Prince Maekor Targaryen, and Lord Hayford, the King’s Hand. Daemon Blackfyre and two of his sons are killed and the rebellion is crushed. Aegor “Bittersteel” Rivers escapes with Daemon’s Valyrian Blade across the Narrow Sea where other members of the Blackfyre family had already escaped to.
Dorne officially enters the Seven Kingdoms and bends knee to King’s Landing. The arrangement is formalized by the marriage of King Daeron’s sister, Daenerys, to Prince Maron Martell of Sunspear.
Raymun Redbeard, the King-beyond-the-Wall, invades the North thanks to the lax behaviour of the Night’s Watch, whose Lord Commander is later nicknamed Sleepy Jack for his failure. Lord Willam Stark of Winterfell and Lord Harmond Umber, the Drunken Giant, catch the wildlings between their forces on the shores of the Long Lake and destroy them. Lord Willam is killed and is succeeded by his brother, Artos the Implacable.
Prince Baelor ‘Breakspear’ Targaryen, the heir to the throne, is killed in a tourney mishap. A few months later, King Daeron II and Baelor’s two sons die in the Great Spring Sickness.
Daeron II’s second son, Aerys I, is crowned King.
Aerys I dies.
Maekar Targaryen is Crowned King.
King Maekar dies in battle with an outlaw king.
Aegon V Targaryen is crowned king. Known as Ageon the Unlikely as he is the fourth son of a fourth son.
The Black Curse. A series of violent misfortunes wipe out the direct succession of the Torston family, leaving the inheritance to a nephew, Tanton Torston, known as Blacksword, a sellsword recently returned from the Eastern Continent.
King Aegon V knighted the 16-year old Barristan Selmy for his great acts of prowess at the Tourney at King’s Landing.
War of the Ninepenny Kings begins. Maelys Blackfyre, known as Maelys the Monstorous, and eight conspirators from the Free Cities ally, calling themselves the Band of Nine. They conquer the Free City of Tyrosh, then move to the Stepstone Isles a staging area for an invasion of Westeros.
King Aegon recognizes the threat, and calls banners for an attack on the Stepstones.
Tragedy of Summerhall. A fire at the summer palace of the Targaryens results in the death of King Aegon V and many other members of the Royal Family.
Jaehaerys II Targaryen is crowned King of Westeros.
Forces from the Seven Kingdoms campaign in the Stepstones.
House Mundy is almost destroyed when the succession is contested. Other houses and foreign pirates choose sides and expand the fighting considerably. Eventually Arven Mundy proves victorious and announces his lands closed to pirates.
The War of Ninepenny Kings ends. In the final pitched battle, the Ninepenny kings are defeated. Ser Barristan Selmy kills Maelys Blackfyre, and Ser Brynden Tully distinguishes himself.
Grey Watch notables Innis Durell and Lor Allard both win glory in the War of the Ninepenny Kings. Armand Markel’s elder brother is killed in the Stepstones.
Jaehaerys II dies.
Aerys II Targaryen is Crowned King of Westeros. Appoints Tywin Lannister his Hand.
Rhaegar Targaryen is born.
Bloodsky’s war in the Grey Watches. Mountain clans attack settlements en mass. Eventually defeated in a desperate battle at Tavinale.
The Campaign Begins
